When I’m feeling mentally overwhelmed or overstimulated, I know I can count on Focus Pocus to bring me back to my center. When there’s so much to do I don’t know where to start, I reach for my bottle of Focus Pocus to help me get my ducks in a row. And when I know what I need to focus on, but I need that extra push to get me there? I thank my lucky stars for Focus Pocus! Surely I can’t be the only one here who needs help keeping my mind on track sometimes?
What is Focus Pocus?
Focus Pocus is a synergy spell made from Rosemary essential oil and KidPower essential oil blend. I use it mostly as a roller bottle (diluted, of course) and apply it to my temples and inner wrists. Sometimes I use the synergy spell as a diffuser blend, too, which is especially helpful if the whole family needs to power through our to-do lists!
Focus Pocus smells AMAZING, but that’s not the point. I swear I always get way more done way more efficiently when I’m using my Focus Pocus potion. I don’t know how much of it is the oils themselves, how much of it is the magic I put into the synergy spell, and how much of it is just the simple ritual of putting it on, but I feel like it helps me focus better and stay focused for longer.
What is a Synergy Spell?
When multiple essential oils are blended together, this is called a synergy (or simply a blend). When you blend essential oils together into a synergy as a magical act with magical intent, that’s a synergy spell!
Synergy spells are great because you can do all the work of raising energy and charging the blend with intention while you’re crafting the synergy spell, and then you can use it in your rollers, sprays, diffusers, and more later! In other words, you don’t have to decide right away what the final product will be, and you can use it for multiple magical applications down the road.
You can learn more about synergy spells in my book, Essential Oil Magic: Natural Spells for the Green Witch by Vervain Helsdottir, or in my Oil Magic 101 SMS Text Class.
How to Make the Focus Pocus Synergy Spell
- Calm your mind and set your intention to craft a potion that will aid you with focus and productivity.
- To an amber glass dropper bottle, add 1 part Rosemary essential oil and 2 parts KidPower essential oil blend.
- Alternatively, you can mix the synergy spell in a roller bottle or spray bottle if you intend to use it only as a roller potion or room spray. (See next section for dilution ratios.)
- Note: this recipe is in parts instead of drops or milliliters. This is so that the amounts are flexible!! If you just want to try it, you can make a test batch with 3 drops Rosemary and 6 drops KidPower. Or, you can mix up a monster batch with 5mL Rosemary and 10mL KidPower – it’s up to you!
- As you add the oils, visualize and/or speak aloud your intentions for each one.
- Visualize the Rosemary essential oil aiding you with memory, concentration, and focus.
- Visualize the KidPower essential oil blend aiding you with willpower, creativity, and easing your mind to minimize distraction.
- Close the dropper bottle and swirl to combine. Visualize the energies of the two oils blending and harmonizing to create your Focus Pocus synergy spell.
- If you wish, you may speak the following incantation while you swirl:
Hocus pocus, help me focus
Guide me to my task’s true locus
Above the mud I’ll rise like lotus,
Lotus, locus, focus pocus!
or this alternate version:
Hocus pocus, help me focus
Guide me to my task’s true locus
Help me craft my magnum opus
Opus, locus, focus pocus!
Focus Pocus Roller Bottle
- Cast and create the Focus Pocus Synergy Spell as directed above.
- Choose your roller bottle.
- Glass roller bottles are ideal.
- Dark colored glass will protect your potion from the light, but colorless glass can be just as good if you store it in a dark place.
- Roller bottles typically come in 5 mL, 10 mL, and 15 mL sizes. Any size is fine! Just portion your ingredients accordingly.
- Optional: add safe, non-toxic crystals associated with a clear mind (such as clear quartz, amethyst, or black obsidian) to the inside of your roller bottle. If you do add crystals, you can charge them before or after crafting your potion.
- Add Focus Pocus Synergy Spell to a glass roller bottle. The synergy spell should fill the bottle at least 10% full and no more than 50% full.
- If you have sensitive skin or are new to using essential oils topically, start with 10% (and patch test).
- If you want to create a particularly strong potion, you can go as high as 50%. (I typically do 50% for Focus Pocus, personally.)
- For stronger solutions, you may want to go heavier on the KidPower and lighter on the Rosemary essential oil. Rosemary is very camphorous and a little goes a long way. On the other hand, KidPower comes slightly prediluted and is formulated to be gentle for use on kids. Sometimes I do as much as 4 parts KidPower to 1 part Rosemary essential oil.
- Top off the roller bottle with a carrier oil such as fractionated coconut oil or jojoba oil.
That’s it! Now you know how to make a Focus Pocus roller bottle potion. To use it, simply roll it onto your temples, your inner wrists, and/or the back of your neck. You could repeat the above incantation, or speak the following affirmation aloud as you apply the roller potion:
Focus Pocus Diffuser Blend
- Cast and create the Focus Pocus Synergy Spell as directed above.
- If you want, you can create the synergy spell directly in your diffuser. If you go this route, fill your diffuser with distilled water beforehand.
- Fill your diffuser to just below the max fill line with distilled water.
- Follow the instructions included with your diffuser, but most diffusers perform best over time with distilled water.
- Idea: If you make moon water or sun water, consider making some with distilled water to use in your diffusers!
- Add 6-20 total drops of the Focus Pocus Synergy Spell to your diffuser, on top of the distilled water.
- If crafting your synergy spell directly in the diffuser, 6 drops of synergy spell is equal to 2 drops Rosemary and 4 drops KidPower, which makes a very light application for sensitive smellers. For a very heavy application, 6 drops Rosemary and 12 drops KidPower makes a total of 18 drops of Focus Pocus synergy spell.
- Turn on your diffuser. As the mist begins to rise and disperse the magic, visualize the vapors permeating your mind and your environment, eliminating distractions and empowering your capacity to focus on the task at hand.
- Optional: repeat one of the aforementioned incantations or the affirmation above.
Rosemary for Remembrance
Rosemary’s invigorating aroma has long been known to support focus and memory among herbal wisdom-keepers and magic-makers. Additionally, it’s one of my favorite herbs for energetic cleansing and purification, and I am not alone in this. Burning or diffusing Rosemary seems to help clear unwanted energy as well as clearing the mind, creating necessary space for the thoughts and energy we choose to welcome. Rosemary, or Rosmarinus, means “dew of the sea” and is associated with both Venus/Aphrodite and the Virgin Mary. It is frequently used in magical healing applications as well as in love spells and for wisdom and learning. Where wisdom, love, focus, and memory meet, Rosemary is commonly included in spells to encourage the quality of loyalty in a lover and ensure a faithful relationship.

As if the magical properties our ancestors have always known about were not enough, Rosemary’s capacity for enchantment extends beyond the mystical, gracing the volumes of scientific inquiry with its profound potential. Modern studies have rediscovered the wonders of Rosemary essential oil, revealing once again its remarkable impact on cognitive function and memory (see articles linked below). Researchers have found that inhaling the aromatic essence of Rosemary can significantly improve performance on tasks demanding focus and memory retention. Furthermore, its antioxidant properties offer a shield against the ravages of time, supporting brain health and overall healing. Finally, it has been found to have potent Through the lens of the scientific method, Rosemary continues to reveal its age-old magic to new eyes—allowing us to see anew the blessings that its fragrant foliage bestows.
KidPower: Not Just for Kids
KidPower is designed to help support and inspire feelings of confidence and empowerment, courage and positivity. Originally designed to help provide emotional support for children, this blend is both gentle and powerful, containing essential oils of Orange, Black Spruce, Camphor, Blue Tansy, Frankincense, and Geranium, plus Vanilla oleoresin. It smells like a delicious creamsicle or orange cream soda, and I’ve personally found it to help inspire creativity as well as confidence and a positive attitude.

I once did a challenge with some of the other witches in Oil Coven that involved putting a drop of Blue Tansy essential oil on my big toes every morning for 30 days. Those 30 days were some of the most inspired and creatively productive days of my adult life! Since then, I swear by Blue Tansy to help with creativity and inspiration! Orange is known among magic- and non-magic-folk alike to uplift the spirit and bestow positivity, and Vanilla‘s sweet scent just has a way of making everything seem easier and better. Frankincense is one of those oils that I’m pretty sure is good for everything, and Black Spruce is in a similar class. Frankincense and Black Spruce can be used magically for energetic cleansing, so it makes sense that, in Focus Pocus, they would help clear the mind of unwelcome distractions.
You may notice that KidPower and its constituent oils seem especially geared towards calming and soothing the mind (see below). Why is this important? Because the biggest thing that pulls us off track when we’re trying to stay focused on a goal is fear! Maybe it’s fear that the goal we’re working towards isn’t actually worthwhile. Maybe it’s fear that we’re not capable of reaching that goal. Or maybe it’s simply fear that this other random thing you just remembered is more important right now than what you previously decided to focus on. Either way, fear sure can get in the way of a good focused time! KidPower’s constituents are carefully curated to help calm just those sorts of occasional doubts, fears, and worries that might pull you away from the task at hand.
And when you add a little Rosemary? Practically unstoppable!
Rosemary and KidPower, KidPower and Rosemary… put ‘em together and what have you got? Focus pocus!
